Part 7: Why We Don't Accept Every Dog (And Why That Keeps Yours Safe)

In a cage-free environment, exclusivity isn't snobbery—it's safety.

If you call a standard kennel and ask, "Can you take my dog tomorrow?" the answer is almost always "Yes."

If you call Atlas Paws and ask the same thing, the answer is "Have they passed their assessment yet?"

We are strict about who we admit into our facility. While this might seem like a hurdle, it is actually our single greatest safety feature. Here is why Selective Admission is the key to a stress-free stay.

1. The "Open Play" Requirement

Traditional kennels can accept aggressive or reactive dogs because they can isolate them in concrete runs. They never have to interact with others.

- Our Reality: Because we are Cage-Free, your dog is mingling with others all day. We cannot—and will not—admit a dog that shows signs of aggression, resource guarding, or excessive dominance.

- The Benefit: You don't have to worry about your dog being bullied. You know that every single dog in the room has passed the same behavioural test your dog did.

2. The Vetting Process (The Trial Day)

We don't just trust a paper form. Every new dog at Atlas Paws undergoes a mandatory Trial Day.

- Step 1: We introduce them to a single, calm "neutral dog."

- Step 2: We slowly introduce them to the pack while monitoring body language for fear or aggression.

- Step 3: If they are happy and safe, they are welcomed into the family.

- The Contrast: Apps like Rover rarely require meet-and-greets. You are often sending your dog into a home with a strange dog you know nothing about.

3. Vaccinations & Health

We are rigorous about health standards.

- Strict Protocols: We require Bordetella (Kennel Cough), Rabies, and DHPP. We use software to track expiration dates automatically. If a dog’s vaccines are expired, our system physically won't let us check them in.

- The Result: A herd immunity effect that drastically lowers the risk of illness spreading compared to dog parks or unverified sitters.
