The Best Pet-Friendly Condos in Downtown Toronto: King West & Corktown Edition
Share
Living in a high-rise doesn't mean you have to compromise on your dog’s quality of life. In fact, many developers in Toronto’s downtown core are now designing buildings with "pet parents" specifically in mind.
Whether you are looking to move closer to our King West (161 Spadina Ave) hub or our Corktown (529 Richmond St E) location, here are some of the most dog-friendly buildings in our neighbourhoods that offer more than just a "no-weight-limit" policy.
King West: The High-Energy High-Rises
If you live in the Entertainment District or King West, you know that space is a premium. These buildings stand out for making the most of it for their four-legged residents.
1. The Well (480 Front St W)
The newest crown jewel of the neighborhood. The Well isn’t just a condo; it’s a massive community.
- The Perk: It features incredible outdoor walkways and proximity to the newly designed cat and dog parks nearby. It’s also just a short walk up Spadina to drop your pup off at Atlas Paws before you head into the office or the shops.
2. Minto 775 (775 King St W)
A longtime favorite for dog owners in the West End.
- The Perk: This building is known for its spacious courtyard and very pet-positive community. It’s situated perfectly between Stanley Park and St. Andrew’s Playground, giving you two great off-leash options within minutes.
3. Fashion House (560 King St W)
Aside from the stunning architecture, this building is famous for its "cool" factor—and that extends to pets.
- The Perk: The layout of the building and its proximity to the greenery of Victoria Memorial Square makes it an ideal spot for those morning and late-night potty breaks.
Corktown & The East End: Space to Roam
The East End tends to offer a bit more breathing room, and the condos here reflect that "community-first" vibe.
4. River City Phase 1, 2 & 3 (West Don Lands)
The River City complex is arguably the most pet-friendly development in the entire city.
- The Perk: These buildings are literally steps away from Corktown Common. Many units feature industrial-style concrete floors (very easy to clean!) and the community holds regular dog-owner meetups.
5. Canary District Condos (Front St E & Cherry St)
Designed originally for the Pan Am Games, this area was built for walking.
- The Perk: The wide, pedestrian-only boulevards are perfect for reactive dogs who need extra space while walking. Plus, you have the specialized pet boutiques and cafes of the Canary District right at your doorstep.
6. East 55 (55 Ontario St)
Located very close to our Richmond St. East location.
- The Perk: A modern building that has become a hub for young professionals with dogs. It offers easy access to the quieter streets of Corktown for peaceful evening walks.
What to Look For in a "Dog-Friendly" Condo
When you’re touring buildings near Atlas Paws, keep an eye out for these three "Green Flags":
- Dedicated Pet Wash Stations: Essential for keeping your unit clean after a muddy session at the park or a walk through Toronto’s winter salt.
- Service Elevator Access: High-traffic buildings can be stressful for dogs in elevators; look for buildings with efficient, large service elevators.
- Proximity to "The Essentials": Is there a 24-hour vet nearby? Is it a short walk to your favorite daycare (hopefully us!)?
